Exodus 33:18-19 “And Moses said to the Lord, please show me your glory.
And the Lord said to him, I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I would have compassion.”
In every fellowship you attend, you will hear a preacher say the word, “The Lord is good”. Instantly, you will hear the congregation respond “ALL THE TIME!”
But what you don’t know is that that is not true about God all the time and it is a function of our own behaviour.
Many believers have come to settle with this saying and are careless with their lives. But those who have walked with the Lord of old knew better than to settle with this saying. Check the scriptures and see that the Lord whom we serve has another side that we don’t know of or that we are aware of but don’t want to talk about.
Great men and women of God of old knew this fact and have tried to point it out to us for the sake of caution in our walk with the Lord. They want us to throw familiarity with the Lord away and give him his proper place of reverence in our lives as we walk with the Lord.
Let’s go to the scriptures and see:
1: Hannah said, ” The Lord killeth and maketh alive”(1Samuel 2:6)
He who is a life giver is also a life taker.
2: The Lord is a Consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29) As gentle as a dove that the Lord may be, he is also a devouring fire.
3: The man who tried to save the ark of God from falling was consumed by fire from the Lord (2 Samuel 6:7) He is a God that doesn’t tolerate disobedience no matter the circumstances.
4: And the Lord shut the wombs of. Sarah, Elizabeth and Rachel(1 Samuel 1: 4- 20) He that maketh one a mother of children, also makes another barren.
5: The Lord sent famine upon the face of the earth. He that giveth the land produce, also makes the the land dry.
6: Shall their be evil in the city and the Lord hath not done it? ( Amos 3:6)
7: Come, let us return unto the Lord, for he has torn us and he will heal us, he has smitten us and he will bind us…(Hosea 6:1-2)
8: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole (Job 5:18)
9: See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand (Deuteronomy 32:39)
10: I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things (Isaiah 45: 7-9)
11: Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness (Jeremiah 13:16)
I could go on and on. But what am I trying to say? That the Lord is wicked or evil? NO! But that there’s no familiarity with the Lord for he does as he pleases (Jonah 1:14, Psalm 115:3, Psalm 135:6) For the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1) So you do whatever you like with what is yours and none has the right to ask you why. Or who can question God? He said, “I work and who shall let it? (Isaiah 43:13)
Yet we always focus on the goodness of God ignoring the reality that the Lord is greatly offended with this generation. What we see happening In the Christendom today is enough for God to do away with this generation. I don’t want to talk about outside the church, but within the household of God alone. It’s worst than the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. Yet we keep shouting, “God is good, all the time”. And all manner of evil is perpetrated under the curtain and we use the scriptures as undercover- “touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm”.
Yes, the Lord is always good, but it’s a function of our behaviour towards his word. Remember, he is always good to his people the Israelites but not when they disregard him and follow their own ways. It’s the same with this generation. But when God wants to visit us with instant judgment as he always did to his people of old, he sees the blood of his Son Yeshua. He’s restrained by the innocent blood of his Son and he holds himself back but not without consoling himself and assuring himself that his own day is coming.
My day is coming! My day is coming!! My day is coming!!! Let he who is sinful continue in his sins, let he who is evil continue in his evil ways. I have done all that I need to do to save mankind but they keep denying me.
( Revelation 22: 11 says, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still.”)
They keep rejecting my free offer of redemption. I am waiting patiently for my own day when I will show the world the other side of me. It’ll be my own turn to reject them. It’ll be my own turn to grieve them as they have grieved my Spirit. It will be my own turn to shut my ears from their wailing just as they have shut their ears from the messages of reconciliation sent to them by my servants. Let no man pray that my day should come quickly because it’s not bread and butter. It’s darkness and gloomy. It’s a day better imagined than experienced.
The bible says in Zephaniah 1:14-18
Near is the great day of the Lord,
Near and coming very quickly;
Listen, the day of the Lord!
In it the warrior cries out bitterly.
A day of wrath is that day,
A day of trouble and distress,
A day of destruction and desolation,
A day of darkness and gloom,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
A day of trumpet and battle cry
Against the fortified cities
And the high corner towers.
I will bring distress on men
So that they will walk like the blind,
Because they have sinned against the Lord;
And their blood will be poured out like dust
And their flesh like dung.
Neither their silver nor their gold
Will be able to deliver them
On the day of the Lord’s wrath;
And all the earth will be devoured
In the fire of His jealousy,
For He will make a complete end,
Indeed a terrifying one,
Of all the inhabitants of the earth.”
Also, in Isaiah 13:9-11 the bible says,
“Behold, the day of the Lord is coming,
Cruel, with fury and burning anger,
To make the land a desolation;
And He will exterminate its sinners from it.
For the stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not flash forth their light;
The sun will be dark when it rises
And the moon will not shed its light.
Thus I will punish the world for its evil
And the wicked for their iniquity;
I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud
And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless.”
On that day, I will show them the other side of me! Let he that hides under the church to do all manner of evil continue, let he who takes advantage of his position as a minister to defraud my people continue, let he who lies in my name continue, let he who profane my name continue, let he who preaches his own doctrine as though they were mine continue, let he who practices divination, ocultism, sorcery on my alter continue, let those who use or established fellowship centers for business and not for saving souls and warning them of the judgment to come continue.
On that day, my day, everything about my goodness shall cease. Mercy shall no longer appear in my dictionary. Agape love shall no longer be mentioned in my book. I shall no longer remember compassion. Everything about my goodness ceases and all that will be left is JUDGEMENT.
In the goodness of God is comprised of mercy, truth, love, compassion, forgiveness, gracious… (Exodus 33 & 34) But on the other side of God is JUDGEMENT – …visiting the iniquities…
So, whenever we say that the Lord is good all the time we are referring to all that his goodness is comprised of. But we forget to see his other side And his other side is JUDGEMENT. He said to Moses , “… visiting the iniquities of the fathers to the fourth generation.” That’s judgment, that is his other side. And the people had to invite it by their actions. He said to Moses, I will make all my goodness pass before you – that is his loving side.
So whenever we say, ” The Lord is good all the time”, let us also remind ourselves that the same Lord is JUDGEMENT at a particular time appointed when second chance is not possible.
God bless you.
