Matthew 19:5-6, “For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be ONE FLESH.”
Ephesians 5: 31-32 says, “…This is a great MYSTERY:..”
1Corinthians 6:16-17 says, “…But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
The bible says that we are made up of spirit, soul and body. In the aspect of marriage, it says that two shall become one flesh. It clearly exempted the spirit and the soul in the union of marriage.
Why is that so?
In the beginning, the Lord said He would make man a help meet that it is not good for a man to be alone (Genesis 2:18)
Man needs help only while he is still in the flesh ie still alive. You cease to need help from any human being when you die. Angels don’t need our help, we need their help.
Marriage is a fleshy thing or of the flesh while union with the Lord is of the spirit even while you are still in the flesh (body).
Union with the Lord is both of the body and of the spirit which sanctifies the soul (1Corinthians 6:16-17, Romans 12:1-2)
You can only be joined in the flesh (body). In heaven, marriage doesn’t exist.
Matthew 22:30 says, ” For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given to marriage but are as the angels of God in heaven.”
Union of marriage is only possible in the physical realm where flesh and blood exist. And the reason is for procreation, communication, relationship, reasoning together, meeting each others need etc.
Marriage ends on earth. We are forever individuals in spirit and soul that is why the bible says that the soul that sinneth shall die (Ezekiel 18:19-30)
When the body (flesh) dies, it returns to dust. The spirit returns to the Father and the soul stands before the Lord for judgment. Whatever you do in your marriage is recorded for you individually as a soul in the union and that is what you will stand in judgment to answer.
We are souls given a body to be physical in this realm and a spirit to be alive and to communicate with the spirit realm (Romans 8:16)
So marriage can only be possible in the bodily (fleshy) realm. But instead of referring to them as two bodies in a marriage, they are one flesh (one body) A MYSTERY as Paul called it.
God bless you.
